Performance

Natural-Born Performer

Engine of Change

The Civic Natural Gas gives you the performance of a 110-hp, 1.8-liter, 16-valve, SOHC i-VTEC® engine that has been refined for 2012 with many friction-reducing and airflow improvements. The Civic Natural Gas also features a 5-speed automatic transmission and Drive-By-Wire™ Throttle System.

Go Long

Weight-saving technologies, improved aerodynamics and engine modifications result in a new Civic Natural Gas with an impressive EPA rating of 27/38/31 miles per gallon (gasoline-gallon equivalent)[1]. The recent engine and transmission changes have another upside: an increased range of over 10 percent, up to 190 miles.

Safety

It’s all about choice, but not when it comes to safety: Every Civic features the same full array of safety systems. Standard.

Active Systems: Control

To help keep you on course and away from danger, Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) with traction control helps sense oversteer or understeer, and then adjusts brake pressure at each wheel and/or reduces engine power to help restore driver control[2].

Standard anti-lock brakes (ABS), with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), help you maintain control during hard braking. Properly inflated tires are crucial for safe operation, so the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)[2] alerts the driver when pressure in any tire becomes significantly low.

Passive Systems: Protection

The Civic has been engineered to help protect you and your passengers when a frontal collision just cannot be avoided. The Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure utilizes a network of connected structural elements to distribute crash energy more evenly throughout the front of the vehicle.

Airbags and More

Standard front, front side and side curtain airbags help reduce the likelihood of injuries in a collision.

Honda's Safety Philosophy

Honda is committed to providing safety for everyone—that means crash protection not only for our own drivers and passengers, but also for occupants of other vehicles, and injury mitigation for pedestrians. We are dedicated to identifying and implementing advanced designs and features that help enhance the safety of vehicles on the road. Learn more.

Top Safety

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has named the 2012 Civic Sedan a "2011 Top Safety Pick," based on more stringent standards implemented in 2010. The Civic Sedan received top ratings in each category including frontal offset, side impact and rear impact crash safety tests and the new roof-strength test.

[2] VSA is not a substitute for safe driving. It cannot correct the vehicle's course in every situation or compensate for reckless driving. Control of the vehicle always remains with the driver.

[3] For optimal tire wear and performance, tire pressure should be checked regularly with a gauge. Do not rely solely on the monitor system. Please see your Honda dealer for details.

Environment

The Civic Natural Gas is living proof that we have alternatives to the current dependence on foreign oil.

Next to Nothing

The Civic Natural Gas does not use gasoline, and received an AT-PZEV[6] rating. Imagine driving around knowing that what you’re putting into the air is less harmful than that of many other cars out there.

Don’t Stop There

You might think we'd stop at creating a vehicle that doesn’t use any gasoline and is rated at 38 mpg on the highway[4]. But at Honda we’re always looking for ways to go that extra mile—literally. So the Civic Natural Gas incorporates buzz-worthy technology like Eco Assist™ and the ECON™ button[5] so you have every advantage out on the road.

Refueling

On the road

Talk about mileage: the MPG for the Civic Natural Gas is an impressive 27 city/38 hwy/31 combined[10]. When you do need to refuel, it only takes a few minutes at a fast-fill compressed natural-gas station. You'll find plenty of refueling options across the nation—just visit the U.S. Department of Energy or CNGPrices.com for a complete list of locations. Please note that most stations accept common forms of payment like Visa or MasterCard; however, some stations require payment with a special "credit card" issued by the station owner or natural gas provider. As for the Natural Gas itself, it's available for sale in nearly every state. Our dealer locator can help you find a participating dealer within your area.
