250-hp, 3.5-Liter, 24-Valve SOHC i-VTEC® V-6 Engine

Every Pilot is powered by a 250-hp, 3.5-liter, aluminum-alloy, SOHC, 24-valve i-VTEC® engine featuring the latest version of Honda's advanced Variable Cylinder Management (VCM®) system.

5-Speed Automatic Transmission with Grade Logic Control

This transmission uses the engine's broad torque curve for brisk acceleration, optimized fuel efficiency[1] and smooth-shifting characteristics. Grade Logic Control improves efficiency under a wide variety of driving conditions, such as uphill/downhill and city-traffic driving. It "knows" when the Pilot is on a hill and automatically holds the engine in a lower gear for better climbing power and increased engine braking when going downhill. This decreases annoying "gear hunting" that can often occur with other automatic transmissions in these situations.

4-Wheel Independent Suspension

The Pilot has always been known for its excellent handling. Rigid unit-body structure provides great performance in both bending and torsional rigidity. The fully independent suspension delivers remarkable precision.

Hill Start Assist

Hill Start Assist prevents the Pilot from rolling forward or backward when stopped on a steep grade. Activated by sensors when the driver's foot moves from the brake pedal to the accelerator, Hill Start Assist will maintain brake-line pressure for a brief moment when the brake pedal is released, giving the driver time to push the accelerator and resume motion.

Variable Cylinder Management (VCM®)

Powered by the intelligence of i-VTEC® technology, VCM® works on the principle that a vehicle only requires a fraction of its power output at cruising speeds. The system electronically deactivates cylinders to reduce fuel consumption[1]. The VCM® engine is able to run on 3, 4 or 6 cylinders based on the power requirement. So you get the best of both worlds: V-6 power when accelerating or climbing, as well as the efficiency of a smaller engine when cruising.

Variable Torque Management® 4-Wheel Drive System (VTM-4®)

The Pilot's VTM-4® system operates automatically. But when you need to start off in extreme low-traction conditions such as when stopped in mud, on ice or in loose gravel, the thoughtful VTM-4 Lock® feature lets you manually lock the rear differential to help get you moving. And it can stay manually locked up to 18 mph.

Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) Body Structure

The Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure is a Honda exclusive body design that enhances occupant protection and crash compatibility in frontal collisions. The ACE design utilizes a network of connected structural elements to distribute crash energy more evenly throughout the front of the vehicle. This enhanced frontal crash energy management helps to reduce the forces transferred to the passenger compartment and can help to more evenly disperse the forces transferred to other vehicles in a crash.

Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD)

Pilot's anti-lock braking system (ABS) uses a special modulator to pulse the brakes to help prevent wheel lockup. This helps the driver retain steering control when braking hard. The Electronic Brake Distribution system (EBD) balances the front/rear braking forces during dynamic loading.

Driver's and Front Passenger's Active Head Restraints

In a sufficient rear-end impact, the front row active head restraints move up and forward in a fraction of a second, helping reduce the likelihood of neck injury.

Dual-Stage, Multiple-Threshold Front Airbags (SRS)

The vehicle is equipped with dual-stage, multiple-threshold front airbags (SRS). One or both of these airbags will be deployed only in the event of a sufficient frontal impact. If deployed, these airbags are capable of being inflated at different rates depending on crash severity, seat-belt usage and/or other factors. Frontal airbags are designed to supplement the seat belts to help reduce the likelihood of head and upper body injuries in frontal crashes.

Front Side Airbags with Passenger-Side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS)

In the event of a moderate-to-severe side impact, the side airbag inflates to help protect the driver's or front passenger's upper body. The Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS) utilizes sensors in the front passenger's seatback to detect the height and seating position of the occupant. If a child or small-statured adult is leaning into the deployment path of the side airbag, sensors deactivate it.

Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren (LATCH) (2nd-Row, 3rd-Row, Passenger-Side)

All Pilot models are equipped with LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) in all three second-row seating positions and in the right-side third-row seat. The LATCH system provides two lower anchors and an upper tether anchor. When used with a compatible child seat, the LATCH system provides attachment points between the child seat and the vehicle seat.

Three-Row Side Curtain Airbags with Rollover Sensor

Pilot provides standard side curtain airbags for all three rows of seats. In addition to the protection they offer outboard occupants in the event of a side impact, these side curtain airbags are fitted with a rollover sensor.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)

This system monitors the pressure in all four tires and alerts the driver if pressure in any tire becomes significantly low. Touring models add location and pressure indicators that provide the exact tire pressure in all four tires[2].

Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA®) with Traction Control

This sophisticated safety system aids the driver in retaining control of the vehicle if side slippage is detected during understeer or oversteer conditions. When the driver is cornering or must make a sudden maneuver, if traction loss is detected the system will engage to help restore the driver's intended course[3].

Adaptable Cargo and Storage Solutions

With its second- and third-row seats folded flat, a cavernous 87 cubic feet of cargo space is available. Think plywood, coolers or a year's worth of frozen burritos.

Configured Your Way

Since both 2nd and 3rd rows include 60/40 split-folding capability, 16 different configurations are possible. Fold one side only and store long items like a pair of bicycles alongside your rear passengers. Or fold both the 2nd and 3rd rows completely for your next trip to the lumberyard.

Load It Up

The tailgate with lift-up glass hatch makes it easy to load and unload whatever cargo you're carrying[11]. The power tailgate on EX-L and Touring models makes access even easier by allowing you to open or close the tailgate with the push of a button.

Ready to Tow

Standard equipment like an integrated Class III trailer hitch, heavy-duty radiator and fluid coolers means the Pilot comes ready with most of what you need for some serious hauling—up to 4,500 pounds (4WD)[12]. And the Touring model includes a trailer harness that provides electrical power to the trailer lights.
